APOLLO MAGAZINE 40 UNDER 40

Apollo magazine announced the Apollo 40 Under 40 Africa list last week. The list features 40 people below the age of 40 who were born, are based or have worked on the continent – and who are transforming the way that art is made and experienced, both in Africa and on the world stage. The four categories – Artists, Thinkers, Business and Patrons & Advocates – each include 10 individuals or partnerships.

We are thrilled to announce that  Latitudes artists Mikhael Subotzky, Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga and Dineo Seshee Bopape have been included on this prestigious list. Click on their names to browse and buy their latest work.

What's more, Latitudes co-founder Lucy MacGarry has been included on the list, under the category Business.

The 2020 edition of the Apollo 40 Under 40 is the first to focus on Africa. As the project’s lead editors, Samuel Reilly and Gabrielle Schwarz, write in the upcoming October issue of Apollo: ‘We hope that, together, those selected reflect something of the vitality and variety of contemporary art in a continent as vast and diverse as Africa, as well as the increasingly central role of Africa within the global art world.’

The Apollo 40 Under 40 Africa is the seventh installment of a project that was launched in 2014 to celebrate the young leaders and future stars of the art world. This year’s list follows the publication in September 2019 of the Apollo 40 Under 40 Middle East, and previous lists dedicated to Europe (2018 and 2014), Asia Pacific (2016), and USA (2015), as well as a Global edition (2017).

The Apollo 40 Under 40 Africa is generously supported by Strauss & Co, South Africa’s leading fine art auction house.
